The rain that never ended

Everyone seems to like rain. I mean why would you not? The cool water falling on you, the wonderful winds moving along, the beautiful views created by the shadows of dark clouds and of course the smell of trees and grass as the rain falls on them. Yet what if it never ended? What if the sun never came back out tomorrow? What if you could stop living in this moment forever? Just the way you like it. The endless long rides with foggy windows. Jumping in the puddle with your friends. Or maybe just running in the rain. Feeling the drops of water fall slowly on your shoulders. The beauty of the sky above your head.

I would take it. That may just be because I hate it when there is too much heat. A bit of cool rain just makes the day better. Another thing that rain does is that it makes it difficult for people to see far distances. So, it would be easier for me to leave everything behind. Nothing to disturb me. Just me and the drops of rain. Maybe it was something that could only happen in my dreams, yet I hoped it was something that happened in real life. Would that not be great? I will wait for that day, but until then the little escapes I get from these short showers should be enough.
The next morning as I woke up I realised it was still raining or maybe it had just started again. I checked the news, and there was a red alert across town. Longest recorded rain shower in the past hundred years. It had been raining for almost twenty hours non-stop, with no breaks at all. I had just realised that my dream had come true. That it was raining, without end. I thought I would go for a run into the abyss. And I did. I put my headphones on, covered my head with my raincoat and ran. Where was I going? wherever the rain was darkest. When was I coming back? I don’t know. Possibly this could be the longest run I take. Maybe one I take forever.
As I continued to run towards the darker side of the abyss. I felt someone running beside me. I couldn’t see who it was, but someone was there. I don’t know how to explain it, but I could see them right there next to me. I was worried, what if it was something dangerous? I did not even know where I was. Possibly somewhere on the edge of the city with nothing but open parking lots and fields. I stopped right where I was. So did the one who was running beside me. She looked so familiar, exactly like someone I knew. Maybe it was her. Yet in the middle of nowhere, covered in rain neither of us ever ended up saying anything to each other. Just a moment of eye contact.
Suddenly I looked around and I realised that I had stopped exactly where the rain was darkest. I did not want to move out of position, and she did not seem to either. The rain began to get heavier and the music in my headphones began to fade out of my mind. I had been standing still for so long that the water on the ground began entering my shoes. The rain drops began settling on my shoulders. I could feel each atom of oxygen entering my lungs and leaving them. It felt as if I was not a part of reality. That is when I saw her put her hand out towards me.
Without thinking even for a moment, I took a step forward to take her hand. By the time my hand was about to hold hers, she disappeared. The rain stopped. I was left in the middle of nowhere, drenched in rain. Yet there was something left on my hand. A name. One that I would end up remembering forever.

This is so
