Adonai, what does it mean? Adonai essentially means god in Hebrew, but to a young boy in the city of Mumbai, it just meant his own name. Adonai wasn’t the most active or outgoing person, but he was a joyful child always found playing in his garden, his eyes had this certain glow, you couldn’t explain it they just sparkled in a way you couldn’t explain.
After the age of 15, Adonai started spending a lot of time alone, just inside his thoughts. He used to imagine the idea of friends around him, have entirely thought-out conversations and stories that he would live out all inside his head. He felt more comfortable talking to these people in his thoughts he was more in control, better than talking to real people, possibly because it was all inside his head.

He could predict everything they said, he could predict their reactions, so no one was hurt at all. Made these interactions less guilty for him and his friends. He cared about them even if he knew they were not real. What he did not realise was that people in his imagination were the same or based on people he knew or would see in his real life, he would deny it to himself, as he thought of them as better than those real, but it was the truth. Their behaviour patterns, beliefs and characteristics were too similar to not have a connection.
During the summer vacation, he started to explore took almost 10 courses on psychology just trying to understand himself and those around him to leave all of these friends just in his imagination and get a real life. Books were his best friend reading about different great psychologists and salesmen understanding persuasion and emotions. Things that he could never really grasp naturally. These sources amazed him, but they didn’t, the approach was too logical and mathematical, and one thing he knew was that people disliked logic since most of them were just dumb. So, approaching them in this way would never work at all.
His loneliness grew, he stopped staying up late, he tried to distract himself with everything. Sports, the gym, work, reading, he even tried to be a sigma male at one point. Which was a very weird phase, but we don’t have to go into it that much. He realised the problem was that he was angry with himself that he was so lonely and isolated despite having so much. He’d try to socialize but every time he would he’d get annoyed by something they say or do and just walk away. He wanted it so bad that he would not take anything he did not want.
He tried to do experiments with people, he would say things that he knew would make people mad to understand more of those around him. Create situations in real life like he would in his mind. He would meet his “friends” and see how they would make him feel at certain times at the beginning it was great but slowly he would get annoyed and irritated. But the worst would be when they left. His thoughts did what other people didn’t, they understood him and that’s what mattered at the end of the day.
The school was starting and Adonai was excited, he was finally going to meet and interact with people his age that was not in his own head and imagination. But he was also scared of the fact as to how he would talk to so many people without imploding, he did not really like most of the people in his school, but what choice did he have but to interact with them. H feared that he would be disconnected from them, and now at around 16 he was in his prime and did not have any friends.
As the year began he’d make desperate attempts, go, and meet them socialise, get on a video call. It didn’t help, he had completely lost hope in himself, his outlook towards people worsened, the smallest things began to annoy him even more., he was agitated almost all the time. He’d punch the wall out of short-term anger, it did not help either but gave him really strong knuckles and cracked walls.
He further used the gym as a getaway and slowly but steadily he got bigger, stronger, to a point he’d never thought he’d be able to reach. The pain in his muscles was the most real thing he could feel, and it grew on him almost like an addiction. To his surprise, the gym actually opened the social gate for him. It made him more attractive and acceptable to others, girls gravitated towards him.
He was something he never expected to be he was popular. People wanted to talk, they asked him questions. People asked for his number they called him over. Adonai would never go through. He just didn’t really grasp the concept. A new boy joined the school a week later, everyone was all over him and suddenly had forgotten about Adonai. This did not make him happy. Every time he saw him his fists would clench in anger.
It was Tuesday and time for some football, The new boy did a few fancy tricks, but Adonai eventually took the ball and would not stop scoring, destroying the other team. Each time he made a goal he would look right at the new guy. Creating friction between them, after the game the new guy confronted him. Pushed Adonai to a corner but Adonai did not shy away, he pushed him back, and he fell. The entire grade saw. The new guy was scared of Adonai. People are attracted to fear, especially those that are feared. Bringing Adonai back to the centre.
In this status, he decided to go to a party. The biggest one. At the party, though he was just sitting alone, not talking to anyone. Till one of the girls dragged him into a circle. Their conversations were basic and bored him so he tried to go back to his imaginary friends, but he couldn’t.
His head began to spin, his eyes turned white, and his spine did not support him anymore, the next we knew Adonai was on eh ground unconscious. So, they took him to the hospital. They did not know who to call because they never bothered to get to know him but realised he was in a coma.
He stayed in the coma for 5 years, with no improvement, the doctors told his family to pull the plug, and they reluctantly did. But he did not die. He was alive without life support. But he did not wake up either. They began running a few tests and saw that he had regenerated almost, to better health, they connected his head to a computer for research.
Adonai took control of the computer with his mind. The doctors could not believe it. He took control to a different level. He took over the internet. Showing himself as a god to all people. An innocent teenage boy to an internet god enforcer. With no outside pressures or influences. All in his own head.

Very well-thought-out and written. Could you also try a healing end as well? Adonai was getting used to the real world when he joined the gym, but then he took a detour. Why don't you keep him in that healing phase and have him fully recover? Just a positive ending ....
So insightful! Looking forward to more of such pieces!
