What if someone else was looking through your eyes, what if without your control someone else took over your life’s driving seat. Is that even possible? Will it be someone else or someone that’s already a part of us, deep inside? Something we hide. Maybe, someone, we don’t want to show to the world because they might dislike or even fear it to a certain extent. But what if this person chooses to come out. And did as it pleased.
The part of us that we aren’t willing to show anyone else, the personality that’s dangerous, not in a good way but in a way that would cause destruction. Just like a superhero, there is a villain inside each of us too, and they are not happy with the way they have been put to live in your shoes. Sometimes that villain chooses to come out, to act the way it wants. To make a few things happen.
For Roman, that villain had been waiting to get out for a very long time and it did. When it did, it was something to see or something that it saw. Around the 8th of December last year, Roman was going through a rough patch, his wife had left him, his business partner screwed him over and his parents refused to lend him any money. He was in a position that nobody wanted to be in. After being a business tycoon for 5 years this fall wasn’t something he saw coming in the books. He had no options, no money saved.
He turned to the one thing that he never wanted to do, crime. His family was part of the mafia, well to say it in a better way, his family was the mafia. He had closed down the business and taken it entirely underground away from everyone. He told them not to contact him because he did not want to be part of it. But he still has a name in the streets. They used to call him Red eye because his father would always have him do dirty business when he was younger giving him a few bruises and the red eye.

The day after he made his first call to the mafia he woke up with a severe headache. He felt like his head was pushing inwards to squash his brain. No, the mafia wasn’t taking revenge on him just yet. But his right eye felt uneasy. It felt in pain. As if all the blood in his body was just travelling to it. He looked in the mirror and realised his right eye was red, not just sleepy red but blood red. He looked like a supervillain. Then a memory flashed in his head. An image from his childhood where he looked at the mirror of his room and had a red eye. It was as if it was his calling coming back to him, or a warning that he shouldn’t be doing this. But he couldn’t stop himself, it was as if something had taken over.
He took it as a moment of becoming. Each drug deal, each robbery he did it with ease not a scratch on his body. But one thing did change. Each time he did it, his eye got even redder. He went back to his family. His brothers and sisters who he has shooed away in the past. They did not make him feel most welcome. To them, he felt like a traitor, and they did not want him around. They told him that h has to do dirty work for the time being if he wants to get back in the business. Roman had nothing else to look forward to and fell into his families words.
The eyes got redder. He would wake with the same headache. He would go to the same dirty streets to the same dirty people giving him the same illegal contraband that he gave back to his family for no money. He spoke out, asked for a commission. They didn’t like it. The next morning when he came back into work, his brother shot him right in the eye. At that moment, it wasn’t red anymore. At that moment he finally regret what path he had chosen.
